The Research Vessel Mike Reigle provides a robust platform for Aquarium of the Bay staff and research partners to conduct groundbreaking marine research across the San Francisco Bay and the Gulf of the Farallones. Berthed at Pier 39, the R/V Mike Reigle is the sole marine research vessel operating out of the San Francisco waterfront. Custom-built in 2018 with funding from the Mike Reigle Legacy Project, this North River 29’ Offshore is built to handle the rough conditions of the Golden Gate. R/V Mike Reigle is designed for live-specimen collections, featuring a shark transport box, an in-deck livewell, saltwater pumps, and aerators. A custom davit arm is ideal for loading supplies, supporting scuba operations, and deploying scientific equipment. The vessel is equipped with safety gear, including radar, EPIRB, immersion suits, and PFDs. It has a comfortable cabin that seats six and includes a worktable. The vessel also has a head (restroom) and a freshwater sink, making offshore work more comfortable.
